The scholastic shortcomings, political dogma and collectivist indoctrination prevalent in public schools is becoming increasingly apparent to a growing number of parents. This, in conjunction with proposed restrictions in the name of Covid-19, has prompted many parents to consider homeschooling as a viable option. What was once considered an antisocial pursuit primarily practiced by those on the fringe of society has since become synonymous with many of the best and brightest minds of recent generations; Examples include Arran Fernandez, Haley Taylor Schlitz and Keith Harding, to name a few. Although it has been announced that many public schools will be offering online instruction as part of the Covid-19 agenda, this is hardly comparable to homeschooling as the aforementioned reasons for avoiding public schools still apply. That said, a lack of available time, instructional proclivity and/or the forbearance to instruct one’s own child can prove to be wide stumbling blocks for many parents. It is for these reasons Boomer’s Landing is now offering homeschool instruction.
The goal of this program will be to prepare your child for early qualification and entry into college through a process of promoting academic enthusiasm. A child learns and retains when they’re having fun doing so. All subjects are fascinating and intriguing if only presented in the right fashion. The dullness and drudgery commonly associated with subjects such as math and history, for example, become exciting topics of dinner conversation when presented as and applied to puzzling out planetary orbital trajectories and engrossing tales of the hilarious bird-mania which swept Rome following Mark Antony’s defeat at the Battle of Actium. The labored pace in which public school presents information and the limited depth in which it does so is incongruent with holding a student’s attention and, consequently, desire to dig deeper and learn more.
In our program, one will find a notable addition to the standard subject core, that addition being Logic. The ability to truly think critically, formulate sound arguments and readily identify fallacious rhetoric is paramount for intellectual growth. It is this facility which has been purposely and systematically eradicated from government funded educational institutions as it would only serve to negate its own propaganda objectives.
All subjects and topics therein covered by public schools will be included in our curriculum but to a much greater depth and examination. Testing and progress will be monitored and digitally uploaded for parent review throughout a student’s time with us. The standardized Stanford-10 national achievement test will periodically be utilized to assess student progress. Once a student is ready to take and ace the SAT, a diploma and recorded subject test scores will be provided for early college acceptance.

After serving as a combat corpsman in the USN/USMC, Mark Lazenby attended university in pursuit of a degree in physics which he was certain would be his primary goal. During his studies, he was proud to have developed a method of calculating drop-time through a non-Euclidean gravity field (which traditionally required a super computer) via an unconventional combination of basic calculus functions. In addition, he developed a novel concept pertaining to Einsteinian relativity now known as proper-velocity; however, some graduate students at another institution published the same findings before he was able to do so.
Despite his initial obsession with physics, he kept finding he wanted to know more about the other subjects he was, initially, only taking to satisfy credit electives. Before long, he had changed his major to mathematics; then biochemistry; then history; then theater; then philosophy; etc… It eventually became apparent he was destined to be a ‘professional’ student and that is exactly what would have happened if he hadn’t met his wife who insisted he pick a degree and graduate. He did so settling on a degree in psychology and, later, earning an MBA.
During his time as instructor and tutor, many noted how his enthusiasm for delving into a subject is infectious and advantageous toward teaching. Considering himself a perpetual student, he appreciates that there’s always more to discover, and instruction opens the door for such discovery like no other activity as every student offers unique perspectives and fresh observations in the never ending pursuit of scholarship.
